Hi - My name is Moe Brown.
I was born in a small rural town to a mother who had me at the age of 16. Like many Americans we were poor, often struggling to maintain a reasonable sense of financial security. For everything we lacked in the way of earthly comforts, we made up for it with heart, discipline and a will to succeed. Folks like me are statistically destined to fail, often defaulting to an inherited life within the vicious cycle of poverty. But through hard work, determination and playing by the rules, I became the first in my family to go to college.
I brought over 5,000 jobs to South Carolina and over a billion dollars in economic development to mostly rural towns in South Carolina.
I’m a proud Gamecock and former captain of the football team who served under the Ole Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier. After graduating, I worked under Republican Governor Nikki Haley at the Department of Commerce where I brought over 5,000 jobs to South Carolina and over a billion dollars in economic development to mostly rural towns in South Carolina; places similar to where I grew up.
I’ve traveled all across the globe selling South Carolina to some of the biggest business leaders in the world. I’m not done working to grow our economy, help our people succeed and make sure every kid from a small town in South Carolina, no matter their financial situation, can grow up to do anything and be anyone.
It’s no secret. Congress is completely broken.
Why? Because it's mostly made up of people at the extreme ends of the political spectrum. They spend most of their time on things that benefit themselves, not the people they represent. Their chief concern is winning the next election. And most members of Congress are older and wealthy — not true representatives of their constituents. There are very few members of Congress who've faced a fraction of the adversity I overcame before age 18.
In the meantime, the cost of health care for a working family is skyrocketing. Every day so many Americans are forced to choose between purchasing their expensive medication or staying current with their mortgage or car payment. Millennials are still playing catchup with homeownership and wealth accumulation due to the reckless decisions that preceded the Great Recession of 2008. Our farmers are getting crushed under the weight of tariffs that serve absolutely no purpose. The band aid offered by the current administration is billions of taxpayer-funded bailout dollars for our farmers — this is textbook unsustainable socialism. Going into politics was never part of the plan, but Americans need help now.
And that’s what I’m going to provide since our current congressman won’t.
